R101 Thermal Response Testing Unit

cutout annotated v2.png

The R101 is an advanced Thermal Response Testing unit that is designed and developed by field operatives who have been conducting Thermal Response Tests for over 10 years. It is designed to be an ergonomic, efficient package that allows a TRT test to be set up in only a few hours. Somes of its key features include:

Unit Box & Size: Lockable Hinged Aluminium case, with gas struts for easy opening/
closing. The aluminium body is perfect for site work, easily cleaned and fully weather
resistant.

The unit size is 700mm Long x 500mm Wide x 600mm High and features a fully integrated
stainless steel frame and wheel system to allow for easy movement around the site. The
wheels and frame are all fully modular and fully detachable for tight spaces.

The unit is internally insulated to minimise heat loss during testing and provide accurate
results of borehole thermal conductivity & resistance.

Heating Capacity: 18kW heating capacity provided in a bank of 6 x 3kW interchangeable
heating elements. Different size heating elements can be supplied with the unit to change
total capacity (ie. 3 x 3kW 2 x 2kW & 1 x 1kW)

Power Supply: The unit is supplied as standard with a 63-amp 3-phase power supply to
allow the unit to be easily connected to generators when testing on site. The unit can upon
request be configured to run as single phase but at full 18kW load this would draw over 75
amps.

Circulating Pump: 0.25 Horsepower internal circulating pump capable of providing the
unit with 300m of depth capability. A separate external booster pump can be provided for
deeper boreholes or higher flow rates.

Flow Metre: Analogue flow metre with totaliser and connected pulse counter for accurate
data logging, this will mean manual flow measurements can be compared with logged
readings to check for accuracy.

Temperature Sensors: 5 x High resolution Thermistor temperature sensors (2x Temp to
loop, 2x Temp from loop, 1x Ambient temp sensor) The extra sensors give redundancy in
the event of problems during testing.

Current Sensors: The unit will measure and log current over each phase via
current clamps; this will be logged by the unit's datalogger and output in amps per
phase upon download.

Data Logger: The squirrel SQ16 data logger is an advanced multifunction data logging
system that allows for rugged environmental use for gathering a wide range of data. The
data logger is secured in a watertight rugged case that allows the user to easily connect
directly to the logger to download data.

The data logger can also be accessed via bluetooth on a mobile device to check real time
readings without even having to lift the lid on the box.

A separate remote data logging module can be provided that allows the user to download
the data remotely, allowing you to check on the test from hundreds of miles away.

Pressurisation & Bleed Valves: The unit has a small 8 litre pressure vessel which will
allow for the system to maintain pressure for the duration of the test. The system will be
pressurised by either a direct connection to a main supply or alternatively by utilising a
manual pumping method.

To assist with purging air from the system 3 bleed valves have been installed at the highest
locations within the box, these will allow for air to be bled out of the system prior to heaters
being turned on.
