Rock Geotechnical's R101 is a UK domestically produced Thermal Response Test Unit. It has been developed after I have spent 10 years in the field running Thermal Response Tests (TRTs) using a wide variety of different testing units, with a wide variety of different problems. I have combined this experience into one professional solution that allows anyone to run accurate, professional Thermal Response Tests easily.

 - 18kW Heating capacity across 6 banks to allow testing up to 300m deep

 - Aluminium weatherproof construction allows the box to operate in all weathers

 - Integrated trolly allows movement of the box across sites/longer distances

 - Advanced datalogger recording from 5 temperature sensors, flow rate & current drawn

 - 3 Phase power supply designed for working with on site generators

 - Pressure vessel ensures that the system remains pressurised for the entire duration of the test

NOTE - We now also offer a TRT Field testing service, we can attend any site set up and conduct a full Thermal Response Test

What Is A Thermal Response Test?

Thermal Response Testing is an important scientific method to determine in situ ground thermal conductivity (expressed in (W/m/K). This is critical for Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) and is vital for effectively designing a borehole array.

The TRT allows the operator to quickly set up and establish a steady injection of heat (up to 18kW) whilst continuously monitoring temperature in & out of the borehole (4 temperature sensors), flow rate & current drawn.

Using the Log Line Source Method a gradient can easily be established from the data collected from the R101 unit and an accurate value of Thermal Conductivity calculated. This can then be fed into design packages such as EED, GLD or GLHEPro.
